What is Lettertrace?
Lettertrace is an open-source brand monitoring platform designed to track how companies are mentioned across artificial intelligence assistants. The software queries models including Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews to measure brand visibility, prominence, sentiment, and share of voice. Released under an MIT license, Lettertrace operates on a developer-first, bring-your-own-key (BYOK) model. Users supply their own OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google API keys and store their visibility data directly within a self-hosted Supabase database, avoiding third-party data lock-in and usage markups.
Lettertrace key features
- Multi-model monitoring: Evaluates brand mentions side-by-side across Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews.
- Automated variation generation: Converts high-level topics into multiple natural user prompts to simulate real conversational queries.
- Visibility and sentiment analysis: Tracks key performance indicators, including recommendation likelihood, brand prominence, sentiment scores, and share of voice.
- Competitor benchmarking: Ingests rival brands to measure comparative mention frequency and discover which products AI models recommend.
- Bring-your-own-key security: Connects directly to personal provider API credentials, keeping keys encrypted at rest within the user's infrastructure.
- Automated scheduling: Executes daily or weekly tracking runs via CLI or local deployments to build historical trend lines.
